Supporting Local Businesses in Wrexham

As Wales prepares for the reopening of businesses that we haven’t seen for at least the last 14 weeks, Wrexham is gearing up for the changes.

Streets are inevitably going to grow busier in just over a week as from Monday, the 3rd of August, the long-awaited reopening of pubs and restaurants will be upon us.

The criteria of businesses that have been given the green light are mainly pubs, restaurants and cafés; with revised measures to their runnings in the best interests of safety.

Rest assured, lots of work has been going on behind the scenes to ensure a safe return for the public to enjoy the remainder of the summer months in north Wales.

What better opportunity to support your local businesses than now? Here's how you can support local establishments as they reopen their doors for the first time since March:

1. If you have a positive experience, think about leaving a tip if you can, or tipping more than you usually would. Local establishments need you now more than ever to get back on their feet!

2. Don't be too hasty about leaving negative reviews if the service isn't what you would usually expect; many businesses will be operating with reduced staff, so please be patient as they adjust to the inevitable pressures.

3. On the contrary, be generous with good reviews! Kindness towards establishments and their staff while they work harder than ever before will be sure to boost morale.

4. Try visiting that local café you've always seen from the outside but never tried, it could be worth your while.

5. If you're still shielding for now, many places in Wrexham are offering takeaway delivery services thanks to the likes of Deliveroo and JustEat. Give yourself a break from cooking one night of the week to put your feet up and order in!

With this in mind, it's important to be mindful of a few measures that are in the pipeline and could be implemented to facilitate the reintroduction of these services.

On Bank Street, a one-way system for pedestrians has been proposed, alongside closing off High Street to road traffic between the hours of 6pm-6am. This will reduce congestion to adhere to social distancing measures. There will also be manned exits on doors and reduced staffing levels. Hygiene is paramount, and every business that is reopening will be adhering to strict regulations to prevent contamination.

Remember, these measures are here for your safety, not your inconvenience.

Hotel rooms and holiday parks will become readily available once again, with businesses such as The Lemon Tree on Rhosddu Road and The Plassey Leisure Park in Eyton benefitting from this greatly. Their establishments offer both food and rooms; with the latter opening to activities such as golf and swimming.

For those of us who are desperate for gyms to open their doors again, small and friendly cafés, such as the Brockley Bean Café on Charles Street offers a healthy menu with protein options. It's definitely worth checking out!

Tŷ Pawb,  the ever-popular arts and market venue, reopened on the 1st of July and is likely to be boosted by increasingly populated streets. At present, it's open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, with some food court traders offering takeaway until 6pm. Hand sanitising stations are present throughout, and there's a staff member at every entrance to answer queries and give guidance to those who need it.

Some businesses from the hospitality industry have already begun opening their doors in Wales with outside seating areas, and since the 13th of July, those of us who are in desperate need of hair-related TLC have been able to get a trim at our sorely missed hairdressers and barbers. Beauty salons are set to follow suit from next Monday, the 27th of July.

While it's tempting to celebrate a new light at the end of a seemingly endless COVID tunnel, please do remember to dabble, distance and drink responsibly.

As always, stay safe!
