Don't Panic! A-Level Results Day

Dont panic

It’s that time of year again; A-Level results day.

With tomorrow being a day that is bound to be nerve-racking for those of you hoping to get into university, always remember that even if you don’t get the grades you were hoping for, there are still plenty of options out there. It’s likely the most important day of the year for you; the confirmation of your future path, whether that be work or university.

When I had my own A-Level results day back in 2015, it was a stressful day indeed. I didn’t know what I would do if I didn’t achieve my predicted grades. In the end, I didn’t go to university straightaway anyway as I initially didn’t think it was for me. This was despite the persistent bias of my college towards a degree over work or an apprenticeship.

If I didn’t bide my time to wait and see what I really wanted to do with my life, I wouldn’t have ended up at a university like Glyndwr where I feel genuinely looked after by my lecturers and the Students’ Union.

I originally might not have considered a university like Glyndwr when I was 18, as I knew that if I did go to university, I wanted to live in a big city. But that isn’t for everyone, and it took me a while to realise that a university like Glyndwr is just what I needed.

A smaller institution like ours offers the unique opportunity of providing a warmer experience for those of us who aren’t as interested in the hustle and bustle of a city centre. With close access to cities like Chester, Liverpool and Manchester, alongside having the picturesque beauty of North Wales on my doorstep, the location of WGU really can be the best of both worlds.

This year, times have been even more testing for those of you studying A-Levels with the on-going pandemic. March feels like it was yesterday, and life seemed to be put on pause while the world continued to turn. Now it’s suddenly August and the dawning of a new academic year is upon us. But it doesn’t have to be scary!

Here at Glyndwr, we will be welcoming new students with both pre-approved places and those who decide to choose us through clearing. Watch this quick video for some useful clearing tips.

If you’ve not yet decided where you want to study, see if Wrexham Glyndwr University is the right fit for you and register for The Virtual Experience Event here.

The event takes place this Friday (the 14th) between 10am-1pm and will allow you to find out all you need to know about WGU without even having to leave your house. Chatting to the tutors on your ideal course, getting advice from our support services and meeting some of our students will surely help you to find out whether you might benefit from choosing a small and friendly university like ours, where people from all walks of life are appreciated. There’s also a sign-up opportunity for more information on postgraduate courses, too.

Glyndwr has a range of accommodation options available, and with Wrexham Village being on campus and barely a 10 minute walk from the town centre, it’s the perfect location for rolling straight out of bed and into a lecture! If you're studying at the Northop Campus, Corbishly Hall is located on-site, just adjacent to the campus itself.

If you'd prefer a bit of peace and quiet away from campus, there's also a range of nearby private accommodation available throughout the Wrexham area.

Whatever you decide to choose, WGU and the Students' Union are rooting for you. Good luck for tomorrow and remember to keep calm and carry on!
