She was fundamental to the introduction of Unitu, your student voice platform, and trained hundreds (if not, thousands) of course reps!
Katie was responsible for leading our award-winning Help Yourshelf campaign, an initiative that helped hundreds of students during the cost-of-living crisis, achieveing local and national attention. As Help Yourshelf evolved, we established relationships with Neighbourly and FareShare, enabling us to collect surplus food from supermarkets all over Wrexham every Tuesday and Friday. These collections were made by Katie herself and prevented thousands of food items going to waste unnecessarily. The NUS Campaign of the Year award in 2024 later followed, and was awarded in light of the profound impact Help Yourshelf provided; a true testament to its success.
Through her dedication to the student movement, Katie regularly went above and beyond in her passion to improve your experience. We know that her values, especially her kindness will be missed by many within the SU staff team and beyond. We will continue to build on the commitment Katie made to our organisation and are eternally grateful for all of her achievements that allowed your SU to grow and thrive.
Her legacy will continue to live on at WSU and we wish Katie all the very best in her retirement!
