👀 Freshers Week is coming: Get your wristband
Whether you’ve moved from down the road or across the globe, starting university is a big step, and our Freshers’ Week gives you the perfect opportunity to settle in, form new connections and make yourself at home in the city everyone is talking about.
You only have your first Freshers’ Week once, and it’s the busiest and most fun week of the entire academic year! We’re talking a whole host of daytime and evening events every single day from the 19th-26th September. Everyone is in the same boat, so everyone will be looking to form new connections and this is the perfect opportunity to meet lifelong friends whilst having the time of your life!
It’s affordable, too, with all daytime events including our Freshers’ Fair being completely free of charge, and evening events being free with a Freshers’ wristband or payable on the door.
At Wrexham, we’re of the cheapest providers of Freshers’ wristbands in the UK. Buying a wristband will save you over 50% off on-the-door prices on entry to our evening events. For just £25, you’re guaranteed entry to this year’s best ever event lineup with nights like:
Freshers’ Fair is the biggest daytime event of the year where local organisations come in to show you what’s on offer in Wrexham and beyond as a student. You’ll bag loads of freebies and there’s also stalls from departments in the University.
Wanting to join a sports team or interested in joining or even creating a society? Freshers’ Fair is where you can meet team captains and society presidents to sign up!
There’s a quiet half hour before the main Freshers’ Fair begins that you can book onto if you prefer an environment that’s less stimulating. The University’s inclusion team will be on hand to help during the quiet half hour, too, so you’ll be able to ask any questions you have surrounding concerns about additional needs if you feel you would benefit from this.
Our official Facebook Group, Wrexham Freshers’ 25/26 has been set up as a dedicated space for sharing information about Freshers’ Week, and also your space to ask any questions.
If you’re staying in student accommodation, getting to know your flatmates could really help settle you into student living. Suggest setting up a flat or house group chat if there isn’t one already, and try leaving your door open when you’re in your room if you’re welcome to socialising – this could make all the difference in going from strangers to friendly acquaintances or even friends!
Your coursemates are going to be the people you spend the duration of your time at university with. Again, finding out if there’s a group chat is helpful. This can be great for discussing assignments and keeping you in the loop for times when your tutor or lecturer might not be available.
Have a walk around your campus to explore spaces you might like to study or grab some food. This could end up being your go-to space for breaks between lectures. Don’t forget, Glyn’s Bar & Lounge on the main Plas Coch campus is your dedicated student space, and you’re welcome to bring a packed lunch into there if pizza isn’t your thing.
If you’re based at Regent Street, Northop or St. Asaph, coming over to main campus to familiarise yourself is recommended! If you’re based at a satellite campus and can’t make it over to main campus, keep an eye out for SU on the Road throughout the academic year where we bring our SU to you!
It’s really important to make sure you get plenty of rest, especially during Freshers’ Week. We want you to have as much fun as possible, but your wellbeing is the most important thing. If you need to take a break, that’s ok, as it’s better to feel 100% for things you can get involved in than 50% for forcing yourself to get involved in absolutely everything!
Wrexham may not be a big city, but it still has loads to offer! It’s worth having a walk around the city centre for shops and places to eat and drink. We’re blessed with natural beauty in the surrounding areas, too, with two national trusts in Erddig and Chirk Castle, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the tallest navigable aqueduct in Britain and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The charming town of Llangollen also deserves a mention, with the River Dee flowing through the town centre and Horseshoe Falls being nearby. Llangollen is around a 25-minute drive from Wrexham, in the neighbouring county of Denbighshire. There’s also a direct bus that will take you straight there!
While Freshers’ Week is our busiest week of the year, we host events for students all year round! The best way to keep yourself in the loop is by following our social media channels, where we promote all of our upcoming events. It’s also worth following Glyn’s Bar & Lounge on Facebook and Instagram, too!
We also publish all of our events on our website, so it’s worth having a browse to find out more about what’s on and the services available to you from your Students’ Union. Remember, by being a Wrexham University student, you’re automatically a member of Wrexham Students’ Union, too, and your involvement is what helps us deliver the best experience possible for you!
