What is the role?
The role of Students’ Union Vice President is to advocate for and amplify the voices of all Wrexham University Students. They will also have unique manifesto objectives which they aim to complete during their time in office. These may comprise of issues they have faced while being a student which they would like to change for incoming students, or areas of success which they have seen at other universities which they would like to implement here at Wrexham.
What is expected within the role?
The VP will sit on numerous University Boards/Committees to ensure that the student experience is always considered when making decisions. These include, but are not limited to: The Board of Governors; Academic Board; Learning, Teaching and Quality Committee etc.
The Vice President will be a Trustee of the Students’ Union which means they will meet regularly with the External Trustees and the Students’ Union President to discuss financial and strategic decisions regarding the running of the charity.
Within the role, it will also be expected of the Vice President to be out talking with students regularly, listening to their feedback and encouraging them to use the Students’ Union facilities. To do this, they may be required to attend both daytime and evening events – especially during Welcome Week and Open Days!

What training will be provided within this role?
During the first week(s) in the role, there will be a supportive induction process to ensure the role is understood and all duties can be fulfilled. This will include meeting the team, being introduced to members of the Senior Leadership Team within the University and thoroughly going over the Handover provided by the outgoing VP. Everyday will be a school day while being in the role, and there are no stupid questions!
Throughout the year there will also be numerous external training opportunities such as Lead and Change, NUS Wales Conference and NUS UK Conference. These will give you the chance to meet fellow Sabbatical Officers and find out what they’re doing in their Unions. This may give you some valuable insight into how you could adapt your thinking to increase your chances of success!
