We visited Regent Street, WSV, Northop, United Kitchen and Main Reception on Plas Coch Campus. A whopping 160 green pledges were made by staff and students to live more sustainably. The winner of the Fair Trade hamper pledged to plant 23 trees on their 23rd birthday, 20 more winners won a Huskup and another 5 won insulated lunch bags!
The support received from staff and students was second-to-none with hundreds of items of clothing donated, 82 attendees on the day and over 200 items finding new homes! The SU also launched its new Plastic Free Periods initiative as part of the ever-growing Period Dignity Campaign; over 160 re-useable products were given out to students along with 100 TOTM kits. This could save tons of plastic entering the oceans! #TurtleyAwesome!
The University and SU teamed up Aramark to highlight the importance of reducing food waste… did you know the UK has the highest rate of food waste in Europe? Wow!
Aramark had tasty coffee-ground brownies on sale and served up some tangy soup made with ‘wonky’ carrots....
Our Help Yourshelf Campaign also came along on the day giving away 100 insulated lunch bags and tips on how to use ‘wonky’ fruit and veg at home.
This will grow into new hedging with a mix of native trees including Hawthorn, Elder, Dog Rose, Dogwood and Hazel with the hope of it becoming a biodiverse green corridor at our beautiful Northop Campus.
You may have seen the Clock Tower and Quad pods lit up in green to mark the occasion, too, and we hope you’ll agree it looked great! #GlowGreen
