Beyond the books

In today’s fast-paced academic environment, students often find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer pressure of university work, deadlines, and expectations. While education is critical, mental health is equally important. That’s why we’re excited to launch Beyond the Books, a campaign dedicated to focus on student well-being and making mental health a priority in educational settings.

Why I Started Beyond the Books

Students are more than just their grades. With academic success only forming one piece of the student puzzle, forgetting about mental wellness can come at a high personal cost. That cost can often be manifested in anxiety before exams, the pressure to meet expectations, or feelings of isolation while navigating university life.

Beyond the Books was created to raise awareness and offer resources to Wrexham University students who may be struggling with their mental health. My goal is to promote mental health conversations and create an environment where students feel supported - not just academically; but emotionally and mentally.

What Beyond the Books Stands For

At the heart of this campaign is the belief that education goes beyond textbooks, lectures, and assignments.

Awareness

Many students are unaware of how common mental health issues are or may feel isolated in their experiences. By encouraging open dialogue, we aim to break the stigma surrounding mental health and create a supportive community by:

  1. Education: there will be resources and workshops provided to help students understand how mental health impacts their overall well-being and how they can cultivate positive mental health habits. This isn’t just about identifying problems but learning strategies to build resilience and maintain balance.
  2. Support: Beyond the Books will also promote the services which students can access. This will be done through social media and physical promotion
  3. Advocacy: Beyond the Books aim to advocate for institutional change within university to prioritise mental health. This includes calling for better access to mental health resources, flexible deadlines, and more compassionate policies that consider students' emotional needs.

Join the Beyond the Books Movement

If you are a student or even staff, we invite you to join the Beyond the Books movement. Together, we can ensure that mental health becomes a priority in every student's academic journey. You do not have to face your struggles alone. Let us break the silence, challenge the stigma, and move forward in a way that focuses on not just academic success but personal well-being.
