Hi, I’m Amy, your newly elected Student Union President for 2023-24. You may recognise me as I was Vice-President 2022-23 and have always been actively involved in the Student Union since starting here in 2019. The name might seem a little different though to last year, and that’s because... I GOT MARRIED! But don’t worry – unlike my name, my aims for the year have not changed!

Last year, I got to work on many great projects and achieved so much in what felt like a short time – the year flew by! I am really pleased to say I achieved the following: I helped plan for a Varsity replacement at the end of March this year, which ended up being the successful and enjoyable ‘Glyndwr Games’; and am in talks to re-introduce the full Varsity experience next year; I secured £5k in funding from the University to develop our sports teams & societies; I worked on the Campus 2025 project closely with the Operational Manager of the University to allow for the student voice to be heard, I created SU Fresher Reps and I also re-wrote the script for tours on Open Days that the University Student Ambassadors use. Therefore, meaning there is a now an updated version being used that details the wonderful services we provide.

You also voted me in for my manifesto which included objectives such as lobbying the University for a change to Graduation plans, working on the accessibility and eligibility to the different funding options we have here, and how we can support students throughout the cost-of-living-crisis. Due to you as the student voice being so poignant in delivering your feedback to us via channels such as Unitu, I have already been able start working on these points at the end of my last year, and already within my first few days in office. We have successfully agreed with the University that they are to hold a student consultation at the Graduation 2024 ceremony & festival to look at moving forward with such plans. I have also met with the Money & Funding team about teaching students how to manage their money – and VP Maisie & I have some very exciting ideas lined up – so keep an eye out!

Finally, I am aiming to host 2 events per month in the SU bar & lounge that relate to a world event and different culture every month! It is going to be so exciting seeing students from all different demographics, come together to celebrate different events! Again – keep your eyes peeled on our social media platforms for more information about this!

We are so excited to see where this year takes us, and always remember that your voice is valued here at Wrexham Students’ Union – so come along to our events, call in for a coffee and get involved!

See you soon, SU President, Amy Anglesea
