Hi everyone,

Having the privilege of representing Glyndwr students for the last two years has been an experience that will always remain close to my heart. It feels strange to say that it's officially my last day in office, but sadly all good things must come to an end!

I came into the role on the 1st of July 2021 with a keen passion for helping students and fighting to ensure that none fall through the cracks. It has been the greatest honour of my life to be able to represent you, and I just thought I’d take the opportunity to give you an overview of a few of the things I’ve achieved for you over the last two years:

  • Secured £15k of funding for a project enabling students to eat well for less
  • Fought for a Graduation Festival that would be a reflection of the achievements of the 20/21 cohort of graduates to take place in light of a formal ceremony not being possible
  • Encouraged the University to introduce a sevenday self-certification period for deadline extensions while students transitioned out of the pandemic and back into normal routines
  • Created a Facebook group called MateSpace to enable students to connect with one another during Freshers’, but also to share any updates throughout the academic year
  • Organised the delivery of suicide prevention and emotional resilience workshops with Two Roads Charity, with further mental health workshops scheduled to take place during Freshers’ 2023
  • Worked with the University’s Director of Operations to improve the delivery of the campus’ catering options at Plas Coch and Regent Street
  • Completed all of my manifesto pledges while being the sole full-time officer for two thirds of my time in office

This is only a fraction of what goes on behind the scenes when working to improve students’ lives, and next year it there is still much to look forward to with your new full-time officers, Amy Anglesea and Maisie Head. They will continue to advocate for your voice and fight for what matters to you. I can say confidently that you are being left in extremely capable hands and I’m genuinely excited to see them deliver on their fantastic manifestos.

While the University levels up with its Campus 2025 project and accompanying rebrand, your Students’ Union will remain ever-present in ensuring that your student experience is enjoyable, empowering and fully supported by ourselves and the University.

In terms of my own future, I plan to remain in the student movement so I won’t be too far away!

Diolch yn fawr to the best student body ever,

Lauren x
