Improve canteens, with meal deals and cheaper prices! We're not all millionaires

Myself and the 2nd years from youth and community have all agreed that the prices in the canteens are very expensive, and we've seen little improvement.

My suggestion is that we create meal deals within the canteen E.g main and drink for £3.50 or sandwich, snack and drink for £3.50!!  This would make people less worried about the cost of their weekly expenditure on university food! Many people have come to me and said they have reduced their time in the canteens because of the high cost, and for some students they've chosen not to eat at all because they don't have enough more for glyndwr canteens; and don't have enough time to go to somewhere cheaper outside of the university!

we all know without breakfast or lunch on a university day could effect students learning, which is why the benefits of improving costs and deals are massive because if students are given the opportunity to eat properly the more chance of them get the most out of their lectures is higher!

I totally agree with this suggestion. I have noticed quite a hefty price increase this year and have been avoiding making purchases.

Maybe having a microwave available too or something for the students who could cook at home and reheat on campus?

I agree I find the prices too high for a university i mean £3 for a salad that is tiny and has no meat options to go with it.

I've been a student for 5 years now at Glyndwr, being based at the art school, Claire is a real asset and lovely person, who is respected by all both present and past students. However, not her fault but food has been limited here at Regent Street compared to main campus. Now, this current year with have a Costa which is expensive in my view and has lost cheaper options, it was silly to have it in and has made no real improvement. As a result, I don't use these canteen anymore and it's sad.

when I asked for a bit more I was told they have a portion control policy, its run for profit not for students

The price of healthier food is more expensive than less healthier. I had a jacket potato, beans & salad which came to £5.50!! A friend had pastie, mash, peas & gravy for £3.50. When I questioned it they said that it is all individually price. I was also told I am not supposed to put my salad on my plate with my other food, that I should put it in a separate box which is a waste of plastic (rolling eyes emoji). We are not going to continue to rise in the green league table with policies like that. The price of a bottle of water proves that it is run for profit- £1.20! Get to B&M or Home Bargains for 39p a bottle. Also, I had a pot of watermelon for £1 which was 5 fairly small cubes. If I went to Sainsbury's (closest & not cheapest) I could get a whole watermelon for £2.50. Stop penalising those who want to eat healthier. I now try to avoid going there for my lunch, unless it's payday & I'm feeling flash! I am enjoying the Costa & Starbucks. Much nicer coffee than before and worth paying more for and knowing it's not as expensive if you were to use a high street store. The coffee outlets seem to have considered that this is for students.

It is distressing knowing that you have to put your salad in the plastic boxes to then tip it on to your plate and bin the plastic box. It is a waste of money and not at all sustainable. I would like to see all catering outlets at uni improve sustainability and have vegan, gluten free and healthy options on the daily menu. It is not logical for the healthier options be more expensive, such as the overpriced unsustainable salad bar in which you NEED to use the plastic boxes. Improvements are definitely needed, if anything a survey should be produced for students to complete in regards to the new catering outlets.

Great Idea as this will help students, decide to go to the canteen instead of going to the supermarket which creates a better/fairer environment for students

This thread seems to have been forgot about. however, I do agree more choice needs to be available for those who wish to eat healthy and for us whom have dietary requirements such as dairy free and gluten free. Allergies are not something we can pick and choose when to ignore as there can be severe consequences.

I have noticed the university have not acknowledges this statement which clearly represents a high portion of students at Glyndwr! I'm not seeing many positive outcomes!
