On an undergraduate programme, you actually have three attempts at your assessment, and if you are on a postgraduate programme you have two?
Do I hear a sigh of relief?
However, the University has regulations around this which you need to be aware of:
If you miss your first assessment deadline your next attempt will be capped at 40%, therefore no matter how well you do you cannot achieve anything more than a pass mark. This of course can affect your final classification when you graduate, so it’s always best to avoid this situation if you can.
Ask for an extension
Speak to your module tutor or programme leader and complete a “request for an extension to deadline” form which can be found HERE. Your module tutor or programme leader can grant you an extension of up to two weeks.
Extenuating Circumstances
If life throws you a curve ball and an extension just isn’t enough, you can submit an extenuating circumstances claim.
The University describes extenuating circumstances as:
‘Circumstances that are normally exceptional and outside the control of the student, which have prevented him/her from performing in an assessment at the level expected or required of him/her when undertaking the assessment.’
If you find yourself in this situation, you can submit an extenuating circumstances form within 10 days of the assessment deadline, but you must submit evidence of your circumstances. Without evidence your extenuating circumstances claim will not be accepted into the process and without the appropriate evidence your claim will be rejected.
If upheld, your next attempt at the assessment deadline will not be capped at 40% and you will not have to pay resit fees. Result!!
Your Students’ Union Advice Centre can support you through the extenuating circumstances process. Get in touch with our friendly advisors and they will help you to complete the form and advise on the necessary evidence to support your claim.
Extenuating Circumstances claims which are supported by the Students' Union Advice Centre are more likely to be accepted, so get in touch!
You can contact us on suadvice@glyndwr.ac.uk where one of our advisors will arrange a Teams or telephone appointment to support you through the process.
