The six courts were in constant use as over forty men and women battled through out the day to get through the preliminary rounds to reach the medal stage for the semi finals and finals.
The men’s singles was a close three-game match between Isaiah Williams from Wrexham and Zifei Wang from Chester, with Chester coming out on top.
This was followed by another Chester success in the men’s doubles with Joel John and Harshavadhar Vasuri beating Ed Storey and Luca Jeffries from Liverpool John Moores in three games. Wrexham men’s pairs of Hibz Mohammad Hayat and Gopi Raju Devarakonda shared the bronze with Nikolas Veillet and Pavan Chand also from Wrexham.
The mixed gold went to Isiah and Isabel Williams from Wrexham beating the Liverpool Hope pair of Aiofe Rogers and Sebastian Lund.
The ladies doubles went to Chester University's Helen Lee and Soph Irving, beating Aiofe Rogers and Lily Ward from Liverpool Hope. The final game of the day was a very close ladies singles match between Helen Lee Chester and Charlotte Taylor from Bangor. Charlotte clinched the crown in the third game by just three points.
The Badminton Wales Development Officer for North Wales, Josh Hart, was very impressed with the smooth running of the event and all players found the day very enjoyable! Those involved will look forward to similar tournaments as well as the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sports) next season.
