Speech and Language Therapy Society
/spiːtʃ ənd ˈlaŋɡwɪdʒ ˈθɛrəpi səˈsaɪəti/
The SLTS was created to raise awareness of the role of Speech and Language Therapists and the individuals that the profession supports. We would like to build a community within the university that utilises the knowledge, skills, and experience of multiple professionals across the Allied Health programmes (and beyond).
The SLTS hopes to arrange opportunities for members to gain relevant extra-curricular training, attend events and enjoy social activities together, such as lunches, or quiz nights. We will also host fundraisers for the society’s chosen charity.
Last year the society was able to provide full funding for students to gain a Level 1 Makaton certificate and hosted a successful fundraising campaign to increase awareness of swallowing difficulties by inviting people to try thickened mocktails. These are experiences that the committee are extremely proud of and hope to be able to offer again in the future.
