Go Green Week 2024

The Students’ Union have teamed up with the University to encourage students and staff to Go Green! Following on from the success of the Union’s Excellent Award in Green Impact 22/23 and The University’s 1st Class award with People and Planet, we want to highlight what goes on behind the scenes and get more people on board!

Make a Pledge & Make a Difference

During the week, look out for our Pledge-Bola! We are asking students and staff to make a pledge to live more sustainably. This can be anything from having a weekly Vegan Day to boiling less water in your kettle…. We’ll be in Regent Street, Main Reception, Glyn’s, WSV and Northop so keep an eye out for us and you could be in with a chance of winning a hamper or a Huskup.

You can see the timetable below for activities throughout the week:

Come along to Glyn’s on Tuesday 12th Of March before 2pm for the return of our Clothing Exchange! Pay just £1 to swap or take as many items as you like.

We’ll also be highlighting Plastic Free Periods with free reusable sanitary pads and TOTM sample kits available for students. We’ll be bringing some of these along to St Asaph, Regent Street and Northop Campus, too!

Wipe Out Waste Wednesday

Did you know the UK produces the highest amount of food waste in Europe, throwing away around 9.5 million tonnes of food waste in a single year! 8.4 million people in the UK are in food poverty but there are organisations and charities out there trying to tackle this problem and bring those numbers down. Click the images below to find out more:

You can also find out how your Students’ Union is tackling food waste and food poverty through the Help Yourshelf Campaign here.

The latest initiative from the Campaign to help students tackle food waste and save money are insulated lunch bags! We only have 100 to give way so keep an eye out for giveaways throughout the week!

Cooked too much for dinner last night? Bring it for lunch and warm it up in the microwave available to all students (free of charge) in Glyn’s Bar and Lounge.

We have also teamed up with Aramark to Wipe Out Waste.. come along to their main site on Plas Coch Campus on Wednesday 13th of March to see what they do to reduce Food Waste. You can check out their Impact Report here

There will be recipe cards and free tasters available on the day from Coffee Ground Brownies to Banana Skin Bacon! We’ll be highlighting the importance of using every crumb we can and how you can get involved!

It’s not only good for the environment, it can help you save some money too! Visit Love Food Hate Waste for more tips and tricks here.
